Leading off today: Bill Mitaritonna's resignation lasted barely more than a month.
Newsday reports the Half Hollow Hills West boys basketball coach has changed his mind and will
continue on the job next season.
Mitaritonna resigned on March 25, saying he wanted to spend more time with his three children ranging in age from 4 to 9. With a little help from three returning players (including sensational guard Tavon Sledge) from his 2009-10 state Class AA finalists, they convinced Mitaritonna to return for his 11th season and an encore from a 24-2 season.
"My three kids were heartbroken that I wasn't the coach any more," Mitaritonna told the newspaper yesterday. "They said they couldn't imagine me not coaching. They had so much fun following us around last year."
Albany football gets a coach: Jon McClement is in line to be named the football coach at Albany High when the district's Board of Education meets Thursday, The Times Union reported.

Robbin Williams was set to become Albany's fourth coach in four years until inconsistencies on his resume unearthed by The Times Union led to Williams withdrawing from consideration.
McClement coached Voorheesville to the NYSPHSAA 2002 girls Class C basketball title. He was an assistant with Albany on the 1997 girls Class A state title team. He's been a football assistant for 19 seasons.
Albany is coming off consecutive 0-9 seasons in football.
A blow for contender: West Babylon midfielder Alyssa Murray, a Division I recruit and the Long Island girls lacrosse leader in assists this spring, is done for the season after tearing the ACL in her right knee, Newsday reported.
Murray was injured April 20 in West Babylon's 10-9 loss to Bay Shore, which triggered a four-game losing streak for the No. 3 team in the NYSSWA Class A rankings. The Syracuse University signee had 47 assists in just eight games.
