Basketball
Basketball Coaches Association of N.Y.: The BCANY is the organization that selects "Mr. Basketball" and "Miss Basketball each season.

LongIslandBasketball.com: Packed with information from Nassau and Suffolk counties, sometimes to the point of being too overwhelming to allow a hoops junkie to focus. Don't miss the weekly "Sweet Sixteen" team rankings.

LongIslandHoops.org: Touting itself as "Long Island's finest resource for girls basketball," this site does deliver a lot of timely and interesting information.

MetroHoops.com: Lots of write-ups about games and the latest intelligence from the recruiting wars.

NewYorkHoops.com: Scores and schedules from the PSAL, Catholic and private leagues in and around the Big Apple, with weekly team rankings that can include interesting tidbits.

ScoutNYPreps.com: Very heavy on recruiting news, but containing plenty of other information as well. The site is part of the Scout.com network of sports sites, which makes links to other related sites from around the country easily accessible.

NYSBasketball.net: Dedicated largely to the past and upcoming installments of the NYSPHSAA and Federation tounaments, for both boys and girls.

ArmoryTrack.com: Though primarily serving the metropolitan New York City area, ArmoryTrack.com compiles and posts considerable amounts of info on cross country and track from all over New York.

Dyestat.com    Dyestat.com: A fountain of information for cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. John Dye and crew set up shop at numerous major events across the country each school year, providing same-day coverage including stories, agate and photos.

Leaderboards: We've been finding season leaderboards on a growing numbers of sites both in New York and nationally. Here are a few links to data-rich sites that are most useful for keeping track of the best:

Football
Freeman Ratings from CalPreps.com: Don't even come here until early October, then don't take the numbers too seriously until late in the season. But watch out in November as this site does power rankings for all of the high school teams in New York (and nationally for that matter). Count on these numbers to create some debate in the Syracuse.com forums.
   Previous years: 2006 | 2005.

MaxPreps: Updated scores and statistics for a number of schools and their players as well as schedules and rosters.

NFL.com: That well-known professional Sunday league (and Thursday and Monday for that matter) has a modest site devoted to high school football. Look for NFLHS.com to get more ambitious as time goes on.

Section1recruiting.com: Don't be fooled by the name; there's quite a bit of weekly material during the footall season.

Section4football.com: Specializes in football news, photos and history from the Binghamton - Elmira - Ithaca region of the state.

General
N.Y. State Public Schools Athletic Association: The site for the largest sanctioning body for high school sports in New York contains tournament schedules (and contact info) as well as the all-important BEDS numbers, which are the enrollment numbers that determine classifications.

Syracuse.com    Syracuse.com forums: Take a little trash-talking, stir in a dash of gossip and add liberal doses of opinion and you have the sports discussion groups on Syracuse.com, the web site of The Post-Standard. Though the newspaper is a Syracuse publication, topics and contributors are from across N.Y. The football board is always very active, even in the offseason.

Ice hockey
U.S. High School Hockey Organization: The USHSHO does weekly national power rankings for boys ice hockey. One of the more interesting tools on the site is a list of scores from around the country for the last 10 days, which is a valuable resource during the playoffs.

Lacrosse
LaxPower.com: With its daily scores lists, computerized rankings by state (and class) and numerous other bits of imformation, this is one of the better single-sport sites in the country.

Misc.
Official sites of NYSPHSAA member sections, PSAL and CHSAA.

Multi-sport, section-focused sites
FrontierLeagueSports.com: Covering a sliver of the north end of Section 3 since September 2006.

New York City Sports News: The site covers some college and professional teams, but much of its bandwidth is dedicated to CHSAA and PSAL sports.

SectionV.talksback.com: Launched in January 2007, this site hasn't really hit critical mass yet as it depends chiefly on on message-board postings to deliver content, but it's been improving steadily.

SectionXSports.com: This is one-stop shopping for everything in Section 10, with the "S" staples of information -- schedules, statistics and stories.

National sites
Soccer
NCSAA    National Soccer Coaches Association of America: The NSCAA does weekly national rankings for boys and girls soccer and selects all-region and All-America teams each fall. Such a high percentage of N.Y. high school coaches belongs to the organization the New York is actually a region all by itself in the organization.
