Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010: Lancaster drops another 1-0 soccer game
Leading off today: Frontier dealt Lancaster its second 1-0 loss of the week yesterday in boys soccer action as Billy Laidlaw scored on an assist from Brian Cleary midway through the second half.

Lancaster, ranked No. 14 in Class AA by the New York State Sportswriters Association, fell to No. 5 Clarence on Wednesday.

"We didn't have that many shots on goal but capitalized on the opportunities we had," Frontier coach Nick Christou told The Buffalo News after his first win over the Redskins in seven seasons at Frontier.

Frontier junior goalie Alex Warren made eight saves. Frontier is 4-9-3 while Lancaster falls to 11-4 overall.

Girls soccer: Eastchester's Shaun O' Hanlon scored in overtime off a corner kick by Danielle Jensen on Thursday to hand visiting Bronxville it's first loss, 2-1.

Eastchester is ranked 19th in Class A and Bronxville fifth in Class B by the NYSSWA. Bronxville earned a 1-0 victory when the teams met Monday.

Eastchester's Alessia Barca had scored with 2:32 remaining in regulation to tie the game. Michela Donohue scored for Bronxville (9-1).

Let there be lights: Fairport's school board this week approved accepting a donation to install lights on its main field. Mark Crane, a Fairport alumnus and owner of the Mark's Pizzeria chain, along with boosters donated $200,000 to place four poles of lights on the field.

Some residents said that the district moved too quickly in approving the project, but district officials said that the 44-page report it produced was proof of due diligence. Though the donation was announced four months ago early this summer, it was known for more than a year that Crane was ready to help.
