Leading off today: There's a change at the top of the state cross country rankings in boys Class AA for the third straight week.
Riding a victory in the Eastern States Championship over the weekend at the Manhattan Invitational, Shaker is back at No. 1. Fayetteville-Manlius had opened the season in the top spot and was replaced by Shaker the following week. Rush-Henrietta took over the top spot last week but has slipped to No. 4 in the new rankings.
Fayetteville-Manlius is second and Warwick Valley third.
Bayport-Blue Point, coming off a victory in its division at Manhattan, has traded places with Marcellus to take over No. 1 in Class B. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (Class A), Fonda-Fultonville (C) and Geneseo (D) remain perched atop their respective classes.
The top two teams in each of the five classes remains unchanged in this week's New York State Sportswriters Association girls rankings this week.
Too banged up to play: Injuries in last Friday's game have left Lake George with too few players to take on Hoosick Falls in Week 7, The Post-Star reported.
Coach Jeff Bennett said the team was down to 14 healthy players -- two under the state-mandated minimum -- after five of his boys were hurt in the 21-14 loss to Mechanicville.
"It's negligent to put a team out Friday night," Bennett told the paper. "It's not healthy, and it's not right to do so."
The second-smallest Section 2 Class C school, Lake George started the season with 21 players. They began Friday's loss with 19 available, and Bennett believes they could have 16 available again after taking this week off.
Called on the carpet: The PSAL will meet with coaches Jim DeSantis of Flushing and Howard Langley of Clinton on Thursday to help determine whether or not both teams will have to forfeit additional games after their fracas last Friday resulted in a double forfeit, The New York Daily News
