Another incident: Having cleaned up the football mess, the PSAL now has a soccer situation to address. The FDR and Madison boys teams, both 5-1 in the Brooklyn 'A' League, have each been suspended for at least one match following their brawl in Brooklyn on Wednesday,
The Daily News reported.
Madison was to play host to Sheepshead Bay, and FDR was to face Lincoln today. Those games have been postponed pending a PSAL investigation.
The fight erupted in the handshake line after FDR’s 3-2 victory over Madison. The paper reported that players from both teams threw punches and spectators rushed the field to join the melee. Several players filed complaints with the police.
The paper reported that the game at the Parade Grounds, a public park, lacked the staff and security typically in place for games on school campuses.
Just a thought: At some point, the PSAL is going to need to overhaul its policies (and public image) in a major way. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the organization has more serious incidents per year that all of the rest of the state's organizations combined. Do we have to get a couple of people killed in order for someone to start making sure that basic security measures are being taken?
Up for a challenge: Pete Tobey at The Post-Star notes that Schuylerville, Greenwich and Lake George are a combined 10-2 so far after making classification jumps this fall. The Black Horses, who moved from Class C to B, are 4-0. The Witches and Warriors, meanwhile, are both 3-1 in Class C.
Schuylerville went 3-6 last season with a young squad but is now outscoring opponents by an average of 42-8.
Lake George is getting the job done with a roster of just 21 players. "It would be a whole lot easier as a 'D,'" coach Jeff Bennett joked.
