Junior Zach Kearney, making his first start, accounted for 277 yards of total offense, threw three touchdown passes and ran for another. Laray Smith ran for 125 yards for the Clippers, who rattled off 32 straight points after falling behind 14-0 after a pair of turnovers.
Monroe-Woodbury QB Ryan Spelman scored on runs of 42, 3 and 2 yards. The Crusaders last regular-season loss was by 21-20 to Newburgh Free Academy on Oct. 3, 2003.
In other action from the tripleheader, Pine Bush edged Xavier 17-14 on John Thorn's 31-yard field goal with 6.1 seconds to play.
MMA scores sweep on the road: Three Monsignor Martin Association teams brought home victories against downstate CHSFL competition, with St. Joe's downing Monsignor Farrell 47-32 on the strength of five Chad Kelly TD passes to outduel Paul Quadrato (17 of 29, 230 yards, three TDs). Kelly threw for 257 yards on 15-of-22 accuracy and also gained 77 yards in 10 carries.
St. Joe's sophomore Nigel Davis scored in the first half on an 83-yard carry and a 76-yard interception return.
St. Francis rolled past Holy Trinity 50-26 loss as Akeel Lynch ran for 249 yards and two touchdowns, and
Timon-St. Jude posted a 42-7 triumph over St. John the Baptist as Alex DiMillo ran 11 times for 202 yards and scored twice.
What a start: Senior Stacey Bedell rushed seven times for 265 yards and TDs covering 21, 74, 12, 52, and 51 yards in the first half as William Floyd kicked off its season with a 41-7 win over Lindenhurst. Bedell also picked off a pass and made six tackles.
Speaking over insane starts on Long Island, Luke Spitzer had 172 all-purpose yards and three TDs in the first quarter to pace Lynbrook past Glen Cove 38-20. Spitzer (five carries, 128 yards) scored on rushes of 50 and 44 yards and a 56-yard punt return in the first 12 minutes.
Brother acts: Tyler Fredericks (eight carries, 119 yards) opened the scoring with a 50-yard run on the opening possession and his brother Ryan tacked on 170 rushing yards and four touchdowns in the middle two quarters as Lawrence defeated Manhasset 35-0.
Lawrence piled up 492 yards of offense and limited Manhasset to one first down, coming on the final possession of the contest.
Meanwhile, defending New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class AA champ Rush-Henrietta beat Fairport 48-28 as Christian Harris scored three first-quarter TDs on runs of 14, 44 and 80 yards and Chancellor Harris scored on a run and a reception.
Christian Harris carried 11 times for 196 yards a week after scoring four times against Webster Schroeder. The Royal Comets ran for 403 yards and got 91 through the air.
Slow out of the gate: Christian Conway scored on a 13-yard rush and ran in the two-point conversion with 3:00 left as Bronxville opened defense of its NYSPHSAA Class C championship with a 15-14 win at Dobbs Ferry.
Bronxville trailed 14-0 until Conway's 5-yard TD run with 9:38 left.
