Boys Class B: Westhill went on a 17-0 run bridging the third and fourth quarters to wipe out a four-point deficit and eliminate Binghamton Seton Catholic 51-42, which played in the 2009 state final.

A Dan Ross (13 points) layup Westhill up 39-33, then Justin Biles (13 points) made two free throws and a three-point play early in the fourth quarter for a 44-33 lead. Seton Catholic got no closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Mike McMullen had 14 points in the victory.

Boys Class C: Buffalo Middle College inflicted the day's biggest beating, dominating previously unbeaten Mynderse 96-50 at Buffalo State. The Kats had a trio of 20-point scorers in junior Davon Alexander (23), senior Darale Young (21) and senior Sean Mulhern (20).

"This is exciting, but we expected this — we knew if we came to work, and if we played the game we came to play, we could make it to Glens Falls," Mulhern told The Buffalo News. "And that's all there is to it. We're really excited. We're glad we can represent Buffalo."

Young made three-three pointers and scored 13 points in the second quarter to help build a 47-28 halftime lead.

Boys Class D: Senior guard Chris Secky scored 13 of his game-high 24 points in the third quarter, giving him 2,020 for his career, as Maple Grove booked another trip to Glens Falls by topping Houghton 52-36.

Saddled with two early fouls, Secky missed seven minutes beginning midway through the first quarter and stood at 1,999 career points at halftime. His milestone points came midway through the third quarter on a pull-up jumper, earning the crowd of 1,000.

Maple Grove won a Class C state title two years ago and lost in the Class D semifinals last March.

Germantown derailed Chateaugay's bid for a fourth straight trip to Glens Falls by beating the Bulldogs 56-48 at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Germantown, which got 22 points from Tom Griffin, ended the game on an 18-5 run. "They picked up the energy and we sat back on our heels," Chateaugay Coach Ron Boyea told The Press-Republican. "We had five trips down the court where we didn't get a shot at the basket."

Girls Class AA: Andrea Mangione, whose previous attempt was an air ball, made two free throws with 3:07 left for what proved to be the final points in Shenendehowa's 34-33 victory over Cicero-North Syracuse.

"I didn’t want the season to end," the senior told The Saratogian. "When I went up there, the crowd was yelling 'air ball, air ball' because I’d air-balled the last shot. I wanted to give it back to them. I was like, 'these two are going in.'"

Mangione scored only five points, all in a crucial two-minute span for the fourth quarter. Emily Weber’s 11 led the Plainsmen, who held sophomore center Breanna Stewart two one second=half bucket and 13 points (plus 12 boards) for the game.

Whereas Shenendehowa has won nine regional championships and four state crowns, Mount Vernon will be heading to the final four for the first time since 1981, when current coach Patrice Wallace-Moore helped the Knights win it all.

Mount Vernon advanced with a 66-61 victory against Kingston.

"We were picking our poison, for sure," coach Jenepher Banker told the Democrat and Chronicle.

In downstate action, Tori Jarosz generated 17 of her 23 points in the second half and pulled down 12 rebounds as Lakeland rallied from 12 points down for a 45-42 win vs. Maine-Endwell.

Jarosz, who was a freshman center on Lakeland’s 2007 state championship team, scored with :58.8 left to give the Hornets their first lead of the game at 43-42.

Girls Class B: Watervliet outlasted Ogdensburg Free Academy 31-25 in a bruising defensive battle to advance to Troy.

"Not pretty, but we had enough points and we got there,” Watervliet senior Tierney McGlynn told The Record.

OFA's Megan Morrison turned in a 27-point performance in her previous game, but Watervliet's man-to-man defense kept Ogdensburg scoreless for the first 7:28. Still, the lead was only 5-2 after the first quarter and 14-11 at the half.

Watervliet made only 12 of 36 free throws.

At Hartwick College, Erin Wolstenholme scored 10 of her game-high 16 points in the second half to help Oneonta oust top-ranked South Jefferson 41-33. Sienna Wisse added 11 points, including a half-court shot that cut South Jefferson's lead to two points at halftime.

Girls Class C: Unbeaten Maple Hill booked its first trip to the semifinals with a 52-46 victory against Brushton-Moira.

Maple Hill took a 31-22 lead into halftime but the Panthers went on a 13-6 run to close the third quarter. Down the stretch, Jessica Dailey (12 points overall) and Katie Roth (24) combined for 11 fourth-quarter points for the winners.

With teammate Kara McDuffee being tightly guarded, Tioga guard Kacie Hoyt had a career day with 27 points to lead the a 60-44 Class C win over Utica Notre Dame. Hoyt, who was averaging 12 points per game, scored 11 of the Tigers' 19 in the second quarter.

McDuffee finished with 17 points and eight rebounds.

"I came off screens and I hit shots and I got some confidence,” Hoyt told The Observer-Dispatch. "I’m a mental case, Mr. Robinson (Tioga coach Joe Robinson) tells me. Once I get confidence in myself, I do well."

Eighth-grader Emily Durr led Notre Dame with 14 points.

Girls Class D: Harrisville topped Argyle 55-51 despite 20 points from freshman point guard Jacquelyn Miller, who was trying to carry the Scots back to the final four for the first time since 2001.
