Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012: Schuylerville shocks Lansingburgh in Sec. 2 playoffs

Leading off today: Schuylerville broke to a two-touchdown lead in the first half and then clawed its way to a 20-19 upset of seventh-ranked Lansingburgh in the Section 2 Class B football quarterfinals Friday.

Schuylerville (4-3) became the first fourth-place divisional finisher to beat a No. 1 in the tournament since 2008.

Junior Anthony Walker (15 carries, 220 yards) rushed for TDs of 4, 56 and 90 yards to put Lansingburgh ahead 19-14. Schuylerville responded with an 80-yard drive capped by a 1-yard TD run from Dan Waldron with 3:07 to play. Shane Lyon (160 rushing yards) sealed the victory by intercepting a pass with 11 seconds left.

Section 5 shocker: The expected rematch between Eastridge and Victor for all the Section 5 Class A marbles is a no-go. Canandaigua surrendered a late TD in the fourth quarter but recovered to score a 28-27 win over 11th-ranked Victor in the playoff quarterfinals.

After Mike Wagner's 15-yard run knotted the score in regulation, Victor scored first in the overtime in a heavy fog on a 1-yard run by Tommy Wagner, but the extra- point kick was wide. Canandaigua tied the game when QB Austin Coyne found Anthony Pagliano for a 15-yard TD pass. Nate Bellis made the extra point to earn the win.

The Blue Devils edged Canandaigua 42-35 during the regular season. The Braves had been winless in the rivalry since 2007.

Ludden advances: Antoine Montgomery's 285 all-purpose yards helped No. 13 Bishop Ludden down No. 16 Canastota 33-20 in the Section 3 Class C-1 semifinals.

Montgomery's 70-yard return of the opening kickoff set up Ledduen's first score and his 79-yard return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter wrapped up the victory. In between, he had a 92-yard score off a pass interception.

“I keep telling people he’s one of the more explosive guys in the area,” Ludden coach Mike Rogers told The Post-Standard.

Pedro Cueto, Ryan Morningstar and Dom Brescia (13 carries, 116 yards) each rushed for a touchdown. Cueto rushed nine times for 72 yards and Morningstar carried nine times for 75 yards.

Briefly: Sleepy Hollow topped Ossining 34-21 for its first victory in the series since 1983, regaining the all-time lead 19-18-1. Devin Lopez ran for 235 yards and three TDs and threw for another 114 yards.
